Jonathan obtained his Master of Business Administration and Master of Laws (Corporate & Financial Law) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong respectively. In 2007, he obtained a Second Bachelor Degree in Chinese Law granted by Tsinghua University. After admission in 1998, Jonathan worked in two well-established domestic law firms where he focused on PRC foreign direct investments. He acted for foreign investors and banks in PRC related transactions including foreign direct investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, and banking and securitization. He then worked in various in-house legal counsel positions including one stationed in China for a sino-foreign joint venture company formed by a multinational telecommunication company and PRC partners. He advised on all legal issues relating to the business development, contractual matters and daily operations of the joint venture. In our firm, Jonathan specializes in China business and corporate and commercial law. He handles all issues relating to the mergers and acquisitions of PRC domestic companies or sino-foreign joint ventures, pre-acquisition due diligence, transactional and commercial documentation and advises on doing business in China generally. He has advised on the restructuring, funding and pre-IPO legal matters of a group of companies engaging in the exploration of natural resources in the western region of China, the acquisition of a group of electronics companies in Hangzhou in excess of S$8,000,000 and the acquisition of value added telecommunication service companies in Hunan in excess of US$14,000,000.
